NESPELEM IMMERSION SCHOOL

 

Hearts Gathered is holding community meetings to plan for a future language immersion school in Nespelem. The nonprofit organization is forming a committee to plan for the creation of this school.

 

At this immersion school, children will attend full-time and be taught all the usual academics, but in a culturally appropriate way, and in one of our Native languages rather than in English. Families will have a choice of which language track to send their student through, whether it be one of the Salishan languages of nsəlxcin or nxaʔamcín, or the Sahaptin language of nimipu.
